Since 2001, on the 11th of every month, we
come together to pray for the unmet needs of our time. This month our prayer will be lead by the Confronting Whiteness and Racism Working Group of the CSJ Justice Commission and will focus on the theme of “Black bodies and the justice of God.”

The CSJ Justice Office invites you to join them for a special evening exploring the complex issues of “Inequity in Aging, Community, and Poverty in Minnesota” on Thursday, February 6, 5:30 pm at St. Kate’s Rauenhorst Ballroom. This is a joint program with Catholic Charities and St. Catherine University.

1) Immigration Working Group encourages prayers at this time for the U.S. Supreme Court as they decide the future of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program. Also remember to pray for all immigrants and refugees this Immigrant Sunday, January 5.

2) Dismantling Racism Working Group invites you to consider going to a special Rev. Martin Luther King Day film screening of the film “I am Not your Negro” with discussion following on Monday, January 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Penumbra Theatre.

3) The Criminal Justice Working Group is sponsoring “Life and Death: Criminal Justice, Capital Punishment and the Work of
Sister Helen Prejean (known for her book and the film: Dead Man Walking). This event is on Thursday, February 27 in St. Catherine University Ballroom (with live streaming of the event to Carondelet Village auditorum). More information coming next month.

Also you are invited to join the working group at the Second Chance Coalition’s Day on the Hill at the MN State Capitol on February 19. More information coming next month.

The theme is Pilgrimage through Time: Exploring CSJ Spirituality and Mission from our Founding to Today. The retreat will include prayer, short presentations, table conversations and personal reflection. The cost: $20 donation includes a continental breakfast, lunch and coffee/tea.

During Advent, noonday meditation will be offered in addition to the regular Tuesday evening meditation at 6:30 PM. The weekly meditation session will include a short reading and one 25-minute meditation. Registration not required.

Mondays, December 2, 9, 16, and 23, 10:00 – 11:00 am1890 Randolph Ave., St. Paul

Lectio Divina or Sacred Reading is the slow, repetitive reading of a sacred text that leads one to the ultimate step of resting in God. It is not Scripture study, nor is it spiritual reading. It is an invitation to take a “long, loving look at Scripture,” says spiritual director Teresa Blythe. “It is a time for falling in love with the Word and experiencing the goodness of God.
”This four-step process for being with Scripture in a prayerful manner includes: Reading (Lectio); Meditating (Meditatio); Praying (Oratio); and Contemplating (Contemplatio). Using texts for Advent, you will experience this ancient prayer form in a group setting, though it is easily adapted to individual practice and can be incorporated into your prayer life.
For our Advent prayer, we will use excerpts from the Gospel of Thomas, made up of 114 sayings of Jesus.

On December 8th at 9:30, you are invited to join us for faith sharing on the Gospel of the day. We use Sunday by Sunday.  We start with an opening prayer at 9:30 a.m. in the Chapel. Then we break into small group for sharing in the Derham building. We return to the chapel for 10:30 for Sunday Liturgy which will be celebrated by Father Michael Joncas. He is our celebrant for all the Advent and Christmas Liturgies this year.
