From Network

I hope you take some time in this first (short) week of Lent to open yourself up to the experience we are about to embark on together. We hope this Lenten journey will help you establish a new contemplative practice, as outlined in the introduction of our Catholic Social Justice Reflection Guide, to invite the Spirit to be present with you and lead you during your time with our materials. This week, think about what you might need to learn about healthcare and Catholic Social Justice during this trying time in our nation.

There is no more appropriate time to take action on healthcare, as Republicans in Congress push to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This decision could cause 32 million people to lose health insurance and double premiums by 2026. As NETWORK’s Government Relations Associate Lucas Allen writes this week:

“Beyond political rhetoric, this moment is really a decision point for the kind of country and society we want to be…Catholic Social Justice requires that we uphold the dignity of all, which requires ensuring all have access to affordable, quality, equitable healthcare. This moment presents a threat, but also an opportunity to share our faithful vision of a healthcare system and society that advances the common good and puts people, not profit, at the center.”

And, because we must live out a faith that does justice, this week, we’re calling Speaker Paul Ryan, Rep. Tim Murphy, and Rep. Steve Scalise to encourage them to not repeal the Affordable Care Act without a suitable replacement plan that provides the same benefits to all currently covered under the ACAConsult your calendar for a sample call in script, and join us by calling the following numbers on each day:
